Just Bieber says that most haters just 'hate the idea of him,' and haven't even listened to his music.

Justin Bieber is a lot more self-aware than haters might give him credit for.

The teen pop star, who turns 18 this March, is in no rush to grow up too quickly, unlike some of his contemporary counterparts.

"I want to do it at my own pace," he said in the February issue of V Magazine. "I don't want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing.

"I'm into love, and maybe I'll get more into making love when I'm older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody."

Bieber, who rose to fame in 2008 with his hit "One Time," has fast-tracked to the top of the billboard charts in the past few years, but the YouTube star knows he'll have to maintain his focus in order to make it to the top.

"I want to be better than anybody who's ever done it," the baby-faced crooner said. "And in order to do that, I need to strive to be the best, be good to people and treat people with respect, and work as hard as I can.

"Because for me, I work so hard and this consumes my life - it's not worth it if I'm not the best."ystatyss tt h

The superstar singer he strives to emulate?

None other than the late Michael Jackson.

"I consider Michael Jackson the best," he told the magazine. "If I could be at his level ... But I've got a lot of work to do. I'm not saying it's going to happen within the next three years. But hopefully by the time I'm 30, people will remember me.

"I want to transition, and become the greatest."

But despite his impressive work ethic, Bieber knows that his steady climb to the top has angered naysayers who want to see him fail.

"When I was coming up, trying to get to where I am now, people were so happy for me. They were rooting for me," he said. "Now that I'm on top, everyone wants to bring me down. Everyone's trying to tug at me and take my spot.

"A lot of people say they hate Justin Bieber who haven't even listened to my music. They just hate the idea of me."
