Rumors flew earlier this week that Halle Berry had gotten engaged to her beau of more than a year, French actor Olivier Martinez. And a spokesperson for jewelry company Gurhan confirmed on Wednesday they had supplied the ring.
But a source close to the actress tells PEOPLE that Berry said just last week that she is not engaged â€" even after she was spotted wearing the new emerald and diamond ring.
A U.K. rep for Gurhan now says the company doesn't know for sure that Berry is even wearing their ring.
"Although Halle is a great fan of Gurhan we cannot confirm that she is wearing a Gurhan design," the company said in a follow-up statement.
Reps for the company have not responded to requests for further comment as to why they initially confirmed it was an engagement ring.
Reps for Berry, 46, and Martinez, 45, have refused to comment on the status of the couple's relationship, and a new TMZ.com report also cites sources saying the two are not engaged.
Amid the mystery, what's certain is that the ultra-secretive couple are going strong â€" engaged or not.
They spent New Year's together in Malibu, Calif., with Berry's daughter Nahla, and were recently spotted on a date night, taking in a Cirque du Soleil show, Iris, and sharing an intimate dinner at Katsuya in L.A.
In Olivier, "Halle has found a rock to lean on," says a source close to the couple.
