Blue Ivy Carter seems to have done a lifetime's worth in gestation and in her mere 72 hours on Earth. And it's no wonder, considering her supernova parents, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, are experts at the game of celebrity, using a blend of promotion and mystique to manage their personal life. USA TODAY takes a tongue-in-cheek look at why little baby Blue is probably cooler than you.
Talking up a Blue streak
Only one person can get Beyoncé, 30, and Jay-Z, 42, to go on the record: Blue. In an unprecedented move, the power couple released their only official joint statement â" ever. "Hello Hello Baby Blue! We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter," the statement, posted on Beyoncé's site Monday, reads. "Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. W e are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support." Well done, Blue.
Belly rub seen 'round the world
Forget the standard, "We're expecting!" press release or Facebook post. Blue's mom and dad decided to let the world know she was on the way via the MTV Music Awards red carpet last August. With a sly rub of her belly, Beyoncé broke the record for most tweets per second, according to Twitter, and put a further exclamation point on the announcement with a rollicking preggo performance of Love on Top, complete with another jubilant caress of her midsection.
Watch the crib
It's doubtful that anyone else on the planet had the privilege of attending practically every Watch the Throne concert. But when you're Blue, the stage is your playpen and the guys rapping on it â" Jay-Z and West â" are merely "Dad" and "Uncle" to you. A pregnant Beyoncé was a fixture on her husband's multi-city tour, which wrapped on Dec. 18, just in time for Blue's arrival.
An Ivy by any other nameâ¦
"Apple" is so 2004, but that's not a diss. Sure, Auntie G (aka Gwyneth Paltrow) garnered plenty of attention when she named her daughter after a piece of fruit, but Blue's moniker is making waves for other reasons. The Internet is abuzz with analysis about little Babyoncé's name, with fans and bloggers alike speculating that her colorful first name is a nod to dad Jay-Z's Blueprint album franchise and that her middle name, Ivy, is an interpolation of the roman numeral IV, or 4, which is the couple's favorite number and happens to be the number of letters in her first name. Clever, clever.
B.I.C. on the m-i-c
Ever been featured on a song with Jay-Z? No? Well, Blue Ivy has. Her dear old dad recorded the emotional Glory in her honor, posting the rap track on his official Life + Times website Monday. In addition to gushing, "Baby I paint the sky blue/My greatest creation was you," the rapper ended the song with the sweet sound of little Blue's cries. Do we sense a "Best performance by a newborn" Grammy nomination?
Blue la la
Paris, heretofore known as the City of Love, may need to change its name to the "City Where Blue Was Conceived." What better country than France for Blue to have originated, considering her parent's annual yachting jaunt in St. Tropez and the fact that she'll likely be decked out in a designer layette faster than you can say "Chanel." On Glory, Jay-Z veers into TMI territory, with the surprising reveal that he and Bey created Blue in gay Paree after suffe ring a miscarriage. This, coming from a couple who refused to even confirm their 2008 wedding.
Princess of all media
It's amazing to think that someone who can't even type, let alone talk, can initiate a complete digital takeover. But that's just what Blue has done since her parents announced they were expecting. Besides her aforementioned record-breaking tweets-per-second performance, Beyoncé's little one sent the tweets flying fast and furious once again last weekend when fans, famous friends and family took to the microblogging site to celebrate her birth. "The most beautiful girl in the world," her aunt Solange Knowles wrote shortly after her birth. Paltrow also sent a special message, "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already."
